All registered participants understand that they participate at their own risk. All registered participants will read, sign, and submit this RULES, REGISTRATION, and LIABILITY WAIVER form prior to participation in the event.
REGISTRATION FEE: Day-of event registration cost is $25.00. Registration fee includes two team members, one race vehicle, and any tools or items necessary for racing. The registration fee will be collected the day of event at the event registration site. Registration fees will be accepted in cash only. Registration fee must be paid in exact change. No change will be made. Pre-registration may be available and will be advertised prior to event.
VEHICLE PILOT: A parent or legal guardian must accompany any participant under the age of 18 years old. That parent or legal guardian must sign the release forms in the registration. Racers must not be pregnant, and must not have any physical or mental disability or impairment that would make their driving and participation a danger to themselves, to other racers, or to spectators. Racer must not be under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs. The Eddies Club reserves the right to disqualify any racer for any reason. Teams may switch riders from heat to heat provided all riders comply with these rules.
TEAMS: Teams cannot include more
than 2 people. Team members will
conduct themselves in a mature manner and keep in mind that there will be
children in attendance.
All vehicles must pass a technical inspection prior to racing. A Pit Area
will be designated for Tech Inspection. Tech inspection will begin at 10
a.m. day of event. Upon arrival teams must report to the registration
booth where they will be directed to the pit area. Please wait there for inspection by a
designated The Eddies Custom APV Club member. After tech inspection
team vehicles, tools, etc must remain in the pit area until the team decides to
leave or are racing. Team members may wander at will. The Eddies Custom APV Club and the Kansas
City Soap Box Derby Association assume no liability or responsibility of any
kind for vehicles and equipment left unattended.
must be propelled by gravity ONLY. No pedals, sail(s), motor (even
if power is off or not operational) or propulsion system of any kind will be
allowed. At technical inspection vehicles must demonstrate effective
mechanical steering and braking. Skateboards and streetluge will be
allowed. All parts must be securely
fastened to the vehicle. No flags or projectiles are allowed. No
fluids of any kind are allowed in or on the vehicle. No open flame
allowed on or in vehicle. Vehicle cannot eject anything while
racing. Only rubber and/or urethane wheels allowed. Drag/friction brakes are allowed
provided that only rubber contacts the track and the brakes do not damage the
track in any way. The event coordinator
reserves the right to make a decision regarding any proposed entry that does
not comply with these rules.
SKATEBOARDS: A professional skateboarders has tested this year’s race track. His top speed was just over 35mph. Skateboarders must be over 18 years of age to participate due to the inherent danger. Skateboards must be of a design for speed riding. “Park” decks will not be allowed due to short wheel base and narrow trucks.
TEAM NUMBERS: Teams will be assigned a number at the registration table the day of the event. Please wear your team number as visibly as possible on your upper body.
PROTECTIVE GEAR: All protective gear must be inspected and approved at technical inspection prior to racing. All racers must wear a bicycle helmet or better with a working chin strap. Full-length denim pants or better are suggested but not a rule. Knee and elbow pads are required. Eye protection (sunglasses will suffice.) Any additional protective gear is welcomed and encouraged. Please remember that this event is meant for fun and to encourage creativity. Safety should always be our first priority.
EVENT VENUE RULES: Team members agree to abide by and comply with all rules of the race track.
RACE COURSE RULES: Team members are not allowed on the racecourse at any time with the exception of their turn to race or they are helping their teammate with a start. After completing the course riders should remove their vehicle from the course as quickly as possible and take them to the designated area to await tow to the top of the hill. Do not take vehicles through the park lawn and grass areas. Please use common sense and keep in mind the safety of racers and spectators. Please help to keep spectators off of the road as well. Only team members will be allowed at the start line and paddle/push start area.
PLEASE NOTE: This year’s race will occur on a soapbox derby race track. The soapbox derby track is a straight line downhill drag race. The track is flanked by guardrails that will not be covered by hay bales or barriers of any kind due to how narrow the track already is at just 2 lanes for SBD cars. If a driver loses control and hit’s the guardrail there is the potential for injury. It is suggested that steering stops – such as are seen in soap box derby cars – be incorporated into your design and finished racer.
RACE HEATS: Start line official will insure as fair start as possible from stop and give the "go" for racers. Two-vehicle drag race style will be used. To insure that all riders get as many rides as possible we will not use a race bracket system this year. The next two riders in line are the next two to race. Competitors (who races against who) will be decided by racers, or be randomly determined by place in line behind the start line. If you would like to race someone in particular feel free to position yourselves in line accordingly. If a team would prefer to ride the hill alone then that will be permitted. Please keep in mind that we use the term 'race' loosely. The Eddies Club would like this event to be about building creative vehicles and having fun. We don't want anyone getting hurt or spoiling the fun for others because they are being too competitive.
RACING: A "start area" will be designated. This area is where the other team member will be allowed to help should your vehicle require to be held prior to start. Event start line official will determine what a fair start is. In the event of some discrepancy participants are expected to act maturely and work with the Start Line Official to decide on a compromise. No contact between racers or their vehicles is allowed during race heats. No intentional contact, bumping, paint-checking, or any dangerous maneuvers will be allowed. Dangerous racers WILL be disqualified IMMEDIATELY.
END/FINISH LINE: The first vehicle whose front most part reaches the end/finish first is the winner. Event staff will officiate the end/finish line and determine and record winners. If a team is riding solo and racing for time the start and end/finish line officials will coordinate to keep and record time of that run.
PHOTOGRAPHS: The Eddies Custom APV Club reserves the right to use any photographs taken at the event in any way the club deems appropriate, provided that use complies with State and Federal Law and Statute.
